Our Hamble Heights residents have launched their own in-house gift shop to sell their crafts.
To celebrate the spring, the residents at our 60-bed care home on Botley Road have launched their own gift shop. They are offering a host of handmade items including clocks, bracelets, necklaces, keyrings, greetings cards and light-up bottles.
All donations raised from items bought in the gift shop will go to our residents’ fund, which is put towards extra treats for the residents on top of their day-to-day activities. Recent examples include residents enjoying a trip to a local pub and requests for a particular newspaper, magazine, or favoured snack.
During crafting sessions with Hamble’s Wellbeing team, led by Vanessa Duggan, our Wellbeing Manager for Hamble, the residents have been using their creative skills to make a whole host of items. They keep some of the crafts for themselves or to give to loved ones, and then make extras to sell in the shop ready for people to buy for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and ‘just because’ gifts.
Maryanne Scriven, Home Manager at Hamble Heights, said: “It is lovely for our residents to be able to sell their crafts for donations to their residents’ funds pot. Seeing a ‘Sold’ sign on one of the items they have spent time making in their crafting sessions with our Wellbeing team brightens their day. They also feel excited when they see some money in the residents’ fund pot as they can use that money to treat themselves or one of their fellow care home residents to a little something special.”
Hamble Heights provides care for residential, nursing, dementia and Alzheimer’s, palliative, and respite residents. This dedicated care includes a dedicated Wellbeing team who are on hand to organise fun activities to support each resident’s physical, emotional, and holistic wellbeing.
