Together, making moments matter

The fruits of our labour!

Lockdown life has challenged society. It has separated families and tested the boundaries of ‘normal life’ as we know it. However, amidst this pandemic and troubling times, lockdown has also brought out the very best in some of our communities. They have pulled together to support and take care of one another during the last few months.

At Oakdale Care Home, we too have experienced the kindness of strangers. The local residents of Oakdale and surrounding areas responded to our call for donations of flower seeds and vegetable plants. Our residents formed their own Gardening Club with the mission to fill the raised flower beds and the community did not let us down!

We received so many generous donations of packets of seeds, seedlings and plants. Our green-fingered residents have thoroughly enjoyed planting them in the garden. Their attentiveness to the garden over the last few months has been commendable; such as weeding and ensuring the plants are well watered.  Their hard work has now been rewarded with a variety of delicious vegetables (such as tomatoes, courgettes and squash), as well as an abundance of beautifully colourful flowers.

Not only do the bright blooms bring smiles to our residents’ faces, but they can now also enjoy the fruits of their labour on their dinner plates. The Home’s award-nominated professional chefs have been preparing the homegrown veggies to accompany their freshly made dishes. Consequently, the tasty cuisine comes with an extra pinch of satisfaction!

Fantastic work by our residents – and all thanks to the kindness of the community. Many thanks once more to all those who donated to our garden.
