World Rocks Against Dementia

On Friday 23rd March, Great Oaks took part in the worldwide charity event, World Rocks Against Dementia, supported by Alzheimer’s Disease International.

There was an excellent turnout for the event with more than 40 people enjoying a day of musical celebration. 18 children from The Orchard Nursery in Bournemouth came in the morning to sing their favourite songs, which included ‘The wheels on the bus’, ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’, ‘Let it go’ and many more.

In the afternoon, we had the fantastic Tony Letts singing classics by Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra and Elvis, which had many people showing-off some moves on the dance floor!

Talented singers and musicians within the Great Oaks team, as well as residents and families, also performed a song or two each and share their musical gift for charity! Housekeeper Bethany and Care Assistant Karen both sang beautifully whilst Keith, the brother-in-law to resident Fran, played the piano.

Caring Canine’s volunteer Louise played the guitar and sang. Vi (partner to resident Derek), took part in a duet with Karen, whilst Patricia (wife to resident Phillip) also played a lovely piece on the piano.

There were lots of guests who attended Great Oaks for the event, which included visitors from Tricuro Day Centre, healthcare professionals and guests from the local community. Everyone enjoyed tea, coffee, muffins, biscuits and cakes, whilst they were entertained with toe-tapping tunes to dance and sing along to!

Thank you to everyone who took part and attended this special event.
