Unique Understanding Dementia Course at Hamble Heights

Specialist care home offers training to the families and friends of those with dementia

As Southampton’s leading care home in luxury living, we uniquely offer specialist support and comfort to families and friends of residents through our exclusive new training course, “Understanding Dementia”.

The Understanding Dementia course, run by Hamble Heights Training Coordinator, invites the relatives and friends of residents to attend a free two-day programme that explores dementia and explains what happens to the brains of those living with the condition.

The course rationalises the reasons why loved ones with dementia behave the way they do in order to help relatives begin to comprehend the condition and visualise day-to-day occurrences from the perspective of someone living with dementia.  This original course provides invaluable information – ensuring it is not just the residents that receive support from the staff at Hamble Heights but also the affected families and friends.

CEO David Hines commented, “Dementia is in the news almost every day – it is such an issue for today’s ageing population. That is why I am proud that Hamble Heights plays such an important part in enriching the lives of our residents as well as helping take greater steps forward in understanding how best to care for those affected by Dementia.”

Since opening our doors in February 2013, Hamble Heights has been gaining recognition with both our residents and the professional community alike.  We deliver exceptional expert care in all five types of senior care needs; dementia, nursing, residential, respite and palliative care.   We are championed by a network of leading professional organisations and care experts, such as Bournemouth University Dementia Institute.  We pride ourselves on delivering an enriched standard of living for residents; providing nutrition, socialisation and daily activities to stimulate the body and mind.
