Encore Care Homes welcome MP Tobias Ellwood for volunteer visit

The team at Fairmile Grange Care Home were pleased to welcome Bournemouth East MP, Tobias Ellwood to their home where he volunteered his services for the afternoon. Meeting the care team, Mr Ellwood was given an insight into the challenges that face the local care sector during the lockdown.

The Conservative MP participated in a training session to correctly ‘don and doff’ PPE equipment before meeting residents in the gardens for a socially distanced afternoon tea.

Mr Ellwood was able to learn first-hand about the challenges that Encore and other care homes are currently facing which made him appreciate the hard work and commitment of all the key workers who continue to provide such high quality care during this difficult time.

While in the gardens at Fairmile Grange, Mr Ellwood joined in the 96thbirthday celebrations for resident Mr Colin West and listened to the experiences of fellow residents and carers. Mr Ellwood particularly enjoyed chatting with WWII veteran and resident, Colin West on his 96th birthday. So much so, that he offered to take him to the Veterans’ Breakfast Club when it is safe to do so.

Fairmile Grange Home Manager, Cecilia Thomson, welcomed Mr Ellwood to the home to provide the opportunity for him to experience life in the care home during COVID-19. Cecilia was thrilled that Mr Ellwood took such an active role participating in PPE training and spending time with the residents in the gardens.

Our incredible team have been doing a fantastic job going above and beyond every day to ensure that our residents are kept entertained and as safe as possible during these challenging times; it was great that an influential visitor was able to experience this first hand.
