Develop new skills as a Healthcare Assistant with Encore Care Homes and progress in a new career

Encore is currently recruiting Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) for its four care homes due to increased demand for care services for older people. The Encore family includes Great Oaks in Bournemouth, Oakdale in Poole, Fairmile Grange in Christchurch, and Hamble Heights in Fareham.

All Encore Care Homes staff will receive a pay rise starting from this month, with pay for HCAs rising from £10.55 per hour to £11.15. On top of this, all new HCAs will receive a £1,000 welcome bonus, as well as a shift bonus of £30 for every additional full shift completed above their contracted hours.

No experience in care is necessary with full training provided, as well as a ‘Buddy’ to work alongside as the new HCAS get to know the role, and ongoing training support. Additionally, Encore offers the opportunity to complete funded training to become a Registered Nursing Associate.

As well as providing companionship to residents, an HCA’s responsibilities include washing and dressing residents, serving meals and helping those that need support with eating, assisting residents to move around, making them feel more comfortable, and monitoring a resident’s condition by recording their temperature, pulse, or weight.

Jenny Rushton, Care Practitioner at Fairmile Grange, is a keen advocate for a career in care and loves to go the extra mile to offer personalised care to each resident, which in turn gives her job satisfaction.

Jenny said:

“When a new resident comes into the care home, we will bring them up to their room, introduce ourselves, and then offer them a drink. We will also ask the family if there’s anything that they can bring in from home to personalise their loved one’s room, so that they feel like it’s a home away from home.

She added:

“I love making a difference to a resident’s day. There’s little things that we do to help our residents and you know that in that moment, someone’s smiling because of the support that you’ve given them. We also get so much satisfaction knowing that we have done something to help them. It’s very rewarding.”
