Proud to be selected by Southampton University

Hamble Heights was audited by Southampton University last year, which is a very vigorous process. They are exceedingly particular about where they place their students, so we are very proud that we have been selected for Southampton University’s student nurse placement programme…

Chrissie is a first year student nurse at the University of Southampton and has been with us for her 8 week placement.  It’s nearly time for her to leave Hamble Heights now to return to her studies.

Chrissie reflects on her time with us:

“During my time, as a student nurse at Hamble Heights care home, I have become very fond of the staff, the residents and the homely feel that has been created through personalised rooms and beautifully decorated community lounges.

Dementia has never been a part of my life, so I was apprehensive about my placement at first. However, the team has provided me with the best available training to help me to understand Dementia, including time with their own mental health nurse.  I also took part in a practical experience with the newly established P.K Beville Virtual Dementia Tour, which has provided me the understanding, skills and confidence to communicate with people living with Dementia.

Throughout my experience at the care home I have witnessed endless compassionate care and feel overwhelmed with the relationships staff have with the residents.  Everyone goes the extra mile to accommodate each resident’s individual needs and requests. My placement at Hamble Heights has been valuable for my journey in becoming a nurse and I’d like to thank you for the opportunity you have provided.”

We have loved having Chrissie with us for the last few weeks and wish her all the best in her future studies.  We look forward to having another student nurse placement from Southampton University soon…
