Great Oaks hosts ‘A Right Royal Knees up’

Great Oaks care home in Bournemouth celebrated National Care Home Open Day by hosting ‘A Right Royal Knees up’ for members of the public, residents and their family and friends.

The free event brought together members of the community, as well as residents and their loved ones, to honour the Queen’s birthday and St. George’s Day at the care home in Poole Lane.

Residents and guests were treated to a jam-packed schedule of activities with a royal twist, including a live singer who performed a number of popular songs from the 1940s to the present day. The Spectrum Palm Court Trio later performed a selection of classic hits which everyone enjoyed listening to.

Guests were also invited to take part in a baking session to produce St George’s Day-themed cakes and cookies. Great Oaks’ catering team prepared a special birthday cake in honour of the Queen with mini cupcakes which were decorated with photos of the Queen and the Union Jack.

Ian MacDonald, care home manager of Great Oaks, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many people to our home, and had a lot of fun taking part in the regal-themed activities with our guests, to commemorate this special day.

“National Care Home Open Day is all about linking communities and making new friendships. Our residents are always pleased to see visitors from the local community and it was a great opportunity for everyone to come together to mark this royal celebration.”
