Great Oaks care home teams up with St. Andrew’s Church to spread festive cheer

St. Andrew’s Church joined Great Oaks in the morning to get to know some of the residents over a cup of tea.  St Andrew’s Church will be visiting Great Oaks on the first Monday of every month from January to give a Faith Hour service to those that wish to take part.

In the afternoon, Wellbeing Manager Michele Blake led residents, family members and staff as they sang traditional Christmas carols to evoke memories of Christmases gone by.

Michele Blake, wellbeing manager of Great Oaks, explained: “It is so important, especially at this time of year, that our events and activities within the home allow our residents to reminisce on special times. Certain things such as singing a classic Christmas song, can transport them back to fond memories and can help them recall these past moments in vivid detail.”

Throughout the rest of the day Paul Spencer, a local singer, treated everyone to some Christmas floor-fillers which had everyone dancing and singing along. There was also time for a festive homemade afternoon tea that consisted of mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas cake.

Michele added: “At Great Oaks we are devoted to putting a smile on our residents’ faces and we are so pleased that members of our local community also take the time to visit our home. Our door is always open and we look forward to welcoming more visitors in the New Year, especially when we hold events like our Christmas party for all to enjoy.”
